Custom ASME B31.3 Cryogenic Piping Systems
Meyer Tool specializes in the design and manufacture of cryogenic, vacuum and pressure components and systems. As an authorized holder of an ASME U stamp and a NBPVI R stamp, Meyer Tool also designs and fabricates custom cryogenic piping systems and components to the ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code.
These ASME B31.3 custom cryogenic piping systems are typically designed, either by Meyer Tool or our customers, for applications requiring the transfer of cryogens in a to meet specific system requirements and are not commercial off the shelf type designs. Cryogens include liquid argon, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen, or oxygen. Gases at cryogenic temperatures may also be transported.

Typical systems are built from austenitic stainless-steel piping to ASME/ASTM specifications. Internal lines are designed and fabricated to meet ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code requirements. ASME B31.3 design requirements cover pressure loads, flexibility, impact testing, and other non-standard loading situations. Internal lines undergo the stringent inspection requirements of the ASME B31.3 code, including visual inspection of welds by our Certified Weld Inspector, radiography, nitrogen cold shocking, pressure testing, and helium leak testing.
Internal lines are super insulated with spiral wrapped multilayer insulation blankets made in-house by Meyer Tool technicians. Lines may include process valves, internal and external flex hoses, and bends to accommodate for temperature contractions.

Vacuum insulation is maintained by stainless-steel outer piping, welded by our ASME Section IX certified welders who build the inner lines. Final inspection requirements include helium leak testing with the inner line pressurize with helium gas.
