Weld Shop Supervisor


The Weld Shop Supervisor is a hands-on leadership position responsible for maintaining our international reputation for weld excellence! Meyer Tool creates one-of-a kind and short-run components for an elite customer base including NASA, Fermilab, Argonne, and leaders in cutting-edge high-tech industries.

A successful Weld Shop Supervisor will develop and mentor our team of welders as a hands-on leader. Precision welding is a core competence at Meyer Tool, so the successful candidate will be a technical expert with a percentage of time dedicated to hands-on welding. Diverse fabrication knowledge and experience on technically complex products is needed to meet our challenging requirements.

Job Description:
  • Develop welding best practices, procedures and fabrication plans for custom, complex projects
  • Develop daily/weekly/monthly plans for weld resources to maintain quality and on-time delivery goals
  • Provide technical leadership to coordinate growth, development and training of welders
  • Maintain and track ASME Code welder certifications
  • Perform Weld Inspections and CWI Inspections if CWI certified
  • Actively participate in management planning and strategy meetings
  • Collaborate with the welding and engineering teams to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • Redirect resources to high-priority projects as needed while maintaining efficiency
  • Champion a continuous improvement culture
  • Develop and implement training and improvement plans
  • Strive to be the in-house technical welding expert
  • Support employee management/HR activities.  Create and maintain a motivating atmosphere and learning environment. Implement MTM personnel policies in a consistent and fair manner.
  • Estimate welding hours and processes for quotes
  • Maintain confidentiality in mentoring and advising welders​
Requirements:
  • 7+ years hands-on welding various metals (stainless, carbon, aluminum, titanium, copper) and fabrication experience.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in welding, engineering, manufacturing management or equivalent leadership experience
  • 3-5+ years in similar position or one level below.
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in a fully integrated manufacturing facility (machining, welding, assembly/test).
  • Experience TIG welding stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum is required
  • Experience welding copper, titanium, Hastelloy, and other exotic metals is a plus
  • Experience MIG weld, torch brazing and operating a plasma arc seam welder is a plus.
  • Experience welding in various positions and configurations is a plus
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings. Understand blueprints, and weld symbols
  • Ability to work efficiently and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate and read and write in the English language
