South Korean Students Visit Meyer Tool & Manufacturing
August 27, 2010
Meyer Tool & Manufacturing often hosts unique potential clients at our facility, but every once in a while we get some very unique visitors. On July 13, 2010, we had the pleasure of hosting three Engineering students from the Pukyong National University of South Korea located in Bushan: Daehyun Kim, Seondong Kim, Hyunyoung Jo. The students are entering their fourth year of engineering studies with a focus on HVAC Engineering. As part of their curriculum, all students are required to make company visits and document their experiences.
They all had an interest in cryogenics, so they set up visits with businesses in New York City, as well as a visit to the Cryogenic Society of America located in Chicago. The Society recommended that students visit Meyer Tool. This was their first visit to the States, so they were excited about all the different experiences they could take in. They stayed in a hostel downtown coordinated by the CSA to live the “city life”. They rented a car and spent time touring around Chicago to see the sites, including getting caught in Chicago rush hour. An added bonus was that they also got to see parts of the Transformers 3 movie being filmed downtown. During their visit at Meyer, we gave them a complete tour of our facilities, showing them our machining, welding, assembly/test, and cleaning capabilities. They also got a glimpse into the current projects we were working on, so saw firsthand how what we do applies to an actual customer product. They were very inquisitive and showed great interest in what we do. We ended the day by hosting a lunch with all our engineers so the students could conduct a Q & A session. When asked what the highlight of their day was, we got huge smiles and a unanimous response: "pizza" – another “first” for the students. |
