Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics MMIRS Instrument
October 14, 200
In 2006 Meyer Tool manufactured key cryogenic components for the Magellan Infrared Spectrograph (MMIRS) for the Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (SAO). We recently receive the following email from George Nystrom of SAO updating us on status: “Just to let you know, the MMIRS instrument is now taking Science data. It has been on the MMT telescope in Tucson and is currently on a ship heading to Chile. Thanks for all your great work in making the main Cryo parts.”
Meyer Tool built the liquid nitrogen dewar, cryogenic optical bench and thermal isolation components for the MMIRS dewar. The design of these components was based on the Flamingo Instrument that Meyer Tool had built for the University of Florida. Meyer Tool wishes SAO and the MMIRS Instrument great success at its new home in Chile. For more information on MMIRS, SAO maintains a website at www.cfa.harvard.edu/mmti/mmirs.html |
