Meyer Tool Exhibits at CEC-ICMC 2015
July 23, 2015
Eileen Cunningham
For as long as I’ve been part of Meyer Tool, we’ve been exhibiting at the bi-annual Cryogenic Engineering Conference (CEC) and 2015 was no exception. The technical program of the conference, as always, featured the latest research and developments in cryogenic technologies. Meyer Tool finds the conference an irreplaceable opportunity to connect and collaborate with those involved in the advancement of this niche industry. One of close to 40 exhibitors, Meyer Tool was represented at the conference by Eileen Cunningham, President, Ed Bonnema, Vice President and Chris Anton, Project Engineer/Project Manager.
Quite different than the economic climate two years ago in Anchorage, the energy at this year’s Tucson conference resonated with enthusiasm at the level of activity coming to fruition at this time. The number of active projects is exciting. Discussions encompassed not only how to best fabricate these projects, but often included how to plan for and meet impending demand. The scientists were excited about the reality of building these projects. The vendors definitely anticipate a busy future. We, at Meyer Tool, appreciated the invaluable opportunity to discuss upcoming projects and the science behind them with so many CEC attendees: customers, vendors and all those involved in the advancement of cryogenics.
Meyer Tool is serious in our bid to Reduce Project Risk for our customers and we are pleased that our efforts were well represented at the show. For example, Dr. Zachary Conway, Accelerator Physicist at Argonne National Laboratory, on behalf of the ANL Physics Division Linac Development Group, gave the oral presentation “A New 2 K Superconducting Half-Wave Cavity Cryomodule for PIP II.” Zack’s talk highlighted Meyer Tool’s fabrication efforts supporting this project.
The JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoran Desert, provided a great location for the conference, though the outside temps were a little warmer than most of us were used to, especially earlier this summer. Attendees enjoyed state-of-the art, luxurious facilities set in the midst of spectacular views. Eileen and Chris, along with about 20 others, took advantage of the location, embarking on a guided early morning desert hike through the surrounding Saguaro Forest to see nature up close and personal. The Sonoran is the only place in the world where the famous Saguaro Cactus grows in the wild – and we were surrounded by them. In another natural phenomenon, on Tuesday evening, nature obliged by showering attendees with a barrage of early monsoon season, ping pong ball-sized hail stones.
CEC provides Meyer Tool the opportunity to learn the latest happenings in cryogenics while solidifying business connections. And while that may be what caught our attention the first time we exhibited, and it does provide the continuing business impetus to attend, we now look forward to the chance to catch up with the people who comprise this impressive community. Those who at one time were only show acquaintances, now, after many years of show attendance and 45 years of successfully Reducing Project Risk for our customers in a collaborative fashion, have become our friends. The superbly executed CEC-ICMC 2015 fostered these experiences and fulfilled our expectations. Thanks to all who participated in making this year’s show the success that it was. Your efforts are much appreciated by so many and certainly valued by the Meyer Tool staff!
Now to get working on all those leads…
