Meyer Tool Attends SPAFOA Meeting at ANL
July 22, 2013
SSR1 Spoke Cavity in production at Meyer Tool
Meyer Tool & Mfg., Inc. President, Eileen Cunningham, attended the Superconducting Particle Accelerator Forum of America’s (SPAFOA) second 2013 membership meeting on June 13, 2013 at Argonne National Lab (ANL). The meeting date was scheduled to follow the ILC Global Design Report completion ceremony at Fermilab the day before. SPAFOA’s meeting focused on ANL's accelerator technology development and the lab's extensive technology development and commercialization programs. Attendees were welcomed by Harry Weerts, Director of High Energy Physics who then gave an excellent presentation on ANL's accelerator and detector programs. In his presentation Dr. Weerts discussed the ongoing collaboration between Fermilab and ANL in SRF for ILC and Project X. This includes processes of the SSR1 spoke cavities shown in slide 16 of his presentation. Meyer Tool is presently welding the liquid helium jacket around the first of these spoke cavities. CJ Guron, business executive of ANL's Technology Development and Commercialization Division presented an overview of the policy and procedures for industry to conduct R&D at the lab and accelerator technologies that are available for licensing. A lively discussion followed which resulted in an excellent interchange of ideas on issues and advantages of industry working with the labs. SPAFOA is a not-for-profit industrial forum with the mission to promote the participation of U.S. industry in major federally funded particle accelerator projects and develop the expertise within industry to apply this technology to the commercial marketplace. The forum provides a vehicle to integrate the resources of the U.S. industrial base into the research, development, manufacturing, construction and operation of major programs based on superconducting radio frequency (SCRF) accelerator technology. Meyer Tool & Mfg., Inc. is a proud supporter of SPAFOA. Thanks to SPAFOA president, Ken Olsen, for his leadership, his commitment to these ideals and for organizing events like these. |
