Bring Your Kids to Work Day 2026

On Wednesday, April 23, Meyer Tool & MFG. participated in the nationwide Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. We value every opportunity to spend time with the next generation while sharing what it takes to “build the impossible.” Our annual event creates an educational experience beyond the classroom, offering kids a hands-on look at the exciting world of manufacturing.
This year’s event included an assembly challenge, arts and crafts, a shop tour featuring multiple manufacturing processes, and a special cryogenic show designed to amaze both children and adults. “Bring Your Kids to Work Day,” as it’s known at Meyer Tool, is filled with activities that allow children ages 8–14 to bond with their parents while learning in a fun and engaging environment. The day begins with breakfast—the most important meal of the day—and Icebreaker Bingo, where everyone gets to learn something new about each other, including things even close coworkers may not know.

After introductions, our Project Engineer, Nick Marr, leads a blueprint reading session to give the kids an introduction to understanding engineering drawings. From there, the group moves into the shop for a hands-on tour. One of the most exciting stops is in the machining department, where the kids get to start a CNC program that machines their names into aluminum plates. They even get to blow the chips off afterward. Next, they watch as their nameplates are welded to a base through a welding helmet, giving them an up-close look at another critical manufacturing process. Once the assemblies cool, the kids perform helium leak testing to ensure their projects are leak-tight just like real components produced at Meyer Tool. Each year also includes a different craft activity. This year, the kids tie-dyed shirts.  Lunch with parents followed, along with favorite activities like Mad Libs and Hangman.

The highlight of the day is always the cryogenic show, featuring our own Doug Cotton and Christian Cunningham performing fun and educational liquid nitrogen demonstrations. In the highly anticipated finale, the kids get to smash frozen fruit into smithereens and enjoy liquid nitrogen-made ice cream. New employees also get to experience the excitement as first-time viewers, often gathering behind the kids to watch the show and enjoy the reactions.

A special thank you goes out to Beth Laurin-Petrik and Elvia Navarro for planning and organizing another memorable event. Their efforts helped make this day a meaningful and exciting experience for both the kids and the Meyer Tool family.
